Many people swear by certain brands, but as far as I’m concerned technology has reached a point where even a 25 cent ball will have most of the characteristics of the more expensive brands. I know I’ve shot a hole-in-one with a 25 cent ball before!
Golf balls generally differ in 3 different ways. The bite (how it acts on the green), the feel/softness, and the distance. Regardless of the price, the only differences these days are so minimal that it isn’t going to change the outcome of a beginners game. Take a look around for TopFlite and Pinnacle balls that are advertised as being ‘Soft’. You’ll find huge packs for relatively cheap.
When you’re staring out there is no point in purchasing overly expensive balls, there is a good chance you may end up losing many of them anyways!
